The North Wales Regional Plan for Regeneration recognized the pressing need for the modernisation of their town centres, as well as the necessity to adapt to evolving retail habits over time. It became increasingly apparent that the town centres needed to develop local economic opportunities, enhance service provision, and foster social inclusion for all residents. In establishing the permanent relocation of Techniquest Glyndŵr, this innovative project created a distinctly different kind of offering in the town centre.

The project was designed with the aim of providing exciting and engaging STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) experiences through the establishment of a centrally located science discovery centre. By moving the existing centre from the Wrexham Glyndŵr University campus to the vibrant cultural centre of Wrexham, the project effectively removed current social and economic barriers to informal STEM engagement, ultimately increasing visibility and accessibility for a wider, more diverse audience.

The new science centre transformed a previously disused T.J. Hughes department store into a vibrant and appealing visitor attraction, reimagining the space to inspire curiosity and learning within the community.
