Grade 2 Listed Building
The dilapidated Grade II listed former retail store, located in the vibrant centre of Wrexham, has been thoughtfully transformed into the Hope Street Church. This new establishment serves as an inclusive community and faith centre for the Diocese of St Asaph. The award-winning church emerged after the Diocese of St Asaph made the decision to purchase the iconic 1930s former Burtons retail store, subsequently appointing a dedicated team of local architects and experts to carefully refurbish the building into a modern Christian place of worship. The overarching aim of this revitalization was to create an industrial style aesthetic that features exposed brick walls, grey ceilings, visible services, and black fixtures. This design approach provides a contemporary interpretation of what a faith and community building can look like in the 21st century.
Notably, this ambitious project was honored with the LABC Project of the Year award for Wales in 2021.
